Generally for Kraft paper bag, the choice of paper bag’s material available are more limited. This is mainly due to the fact that if somebody asking for Kraft paper bag, they are normally looking for something which is cheaper and cost effective.

The paper material normally used are 80g, 100g, 120g or maximum 140g. The reason which people will not use something more than 140g is because the material will become more expensive and it will be then better to use normally matt or gloss lamination paper bag.

Of course as we all know, Kraft paper bag will look a bit brown in colour but if we compare very batch of the Kraft paper, the brown colour will look slightly different. Some will look more brown but others might look a bit lighter in colour. This is something which cannot be control by the Kraft paper bag manufacturer or the paper bag supplier. They are relying on the Kraft paper manufacturer and Kraft paper manufacture are relying on the raw material supplied during the time of production.

If you see from few years back, most retail industries especially clothing industries are using matt or gloss lamination paper bag because they look better as compare to the Kraft paper bag in those years. In those years, paper bag supplier can only produce Kraft paper bag with silk screen printing or hot stamping on it. Nobody will consider to do a 4 colours offset printing on it or even a simple flexo printing on it. This is mainly due to the fact that people regards kraft paper bag is the cheapest range in all the paper bag series, so it is fair that it shall only do some very cheap printing on it.

Silk screen printing on kraft paper bag does not look as nice as 4 colours printing on normal matt or gloss lamination paper bag. It is simply applying a single layer of colour per printing process and if you want to print 2 colours and more on you Kraft paper bag, you then need to do 2 process of printing. This will make the kraft paper bag to become not cost effective because by going through 2 times of printing process, the cost of printing will come closer to normal matt or gloss lamination paper bag.

However, now most kraft paper bag manufacturer is starting to do a flexo printing on kraft paper bags. Flexo and 4 colours offset printing is different. It is slightly cheaper and all paper bag manufactures will mix the colours while doing the printing. Meaning, we can printing colours with gradient effect. You can design your desire Kraft paper bag with different colours tone on it. You can also print a very nice photo or very sharp picture on it. If you see from far, you actually cannot really tell whether it is flexo or 4 colours offset printing.

Kraft paper bags are cheaper in pricing and due to costing and environmental issue where kraft paper bag do not have a layer of PP material, we predict that it will become the future trend in future. It is more environmental friend because it did not use the bleaching agent chemical to make it become white colour. This is already very obvious in western countries as they are more concern about environmental issue as compare to Asian people. The main reason may be due to the fact that they are now experiencing big climate chance in their respective countries. The 4 seasons climates  namely Spring, Summer, Spring and Winter they previously experiencing is no longer the same as now. Winter become a lot cooler as compare to before, Summer become hotter, both winter and summer are setting in at the wrong timing as well. That is why Kraft paper bag is far more famous now as compare to laminated paper bag.

Another obvious different between normal laminated paper bag and kraft paper bag is kraft paper bag manufacturer normally use paper twisted handle to make it’s handle. While as for laminated paper bag, becasue they generally percieved by general public as a more high class paper bag packaging, a luxury PP or cotton cord will be used. Cotton cord is still ok. However PP cord is not that friendly to our environment. It is not biodegradable.

Due to the reason above, we in Luxury Packaging strongly recommend our customer to change their normal laminated paper bag to kraft paper bag if it will not affect their branding. By doing so, some packaging costing can also be saved. It is really a win – win situation. Kraft paper bag is generally cheaper as compare to paper bag with lamination. It is normally use by garment retail industries who are selling cheaper range clothing due to its pricing. It is also not look as luxury as normal laminated paper bag. It normally come with paper twisted handle and sometime cotton cord or pp cord will also be used to make it look more closely to normal laminated paper bag which has a more luxury appearance.

However, recently the trend is slightly changed.  It is now used by some very famous retail shop also like MNG, Mango, Selfriges, Golfhouse, Zara and etc. European countries are now using a lot of Kraft paper bag and there are now a lot of Kraft paper supplier and Kraft paper manufacturer there. The main reason they are now using Kraft paper bags is due to environmental issue. As we all realised, there are a lot of pollution nowadays, the main contribution can be said from China and they are the main production factory in the world. But we also need to bear in mind that US is the main consumer in the world. The consume around 1/3 of the resources in the whole world. If there is no demand, then there will never be a supply.

If we are still using the paper bag with lamination, then we will create more pollution to our environment as the lamination can only be recyclable but cannot be biodegradable. It is therefore European countries are now more encourage on using more Kraft paper bag instead of paper bag with lamination. We have not up to date see such a movement in Asian countries. We hope it will happen in near future when they well educated on saving environmental issue.

Basically, Kraft paper bag is divided into normal brown Kraft paper bag and white Kraft paper bag. Same as laminated paper bag, we normally apply 4 colours printing on the Kraft paper bag. The 4 colours printing process we normally applied are called flexo printing. It is not as sharp as the normal CMYK printing which apply in normally laminated paper bag, but it is still ok.

In fact, lately we can also do a very sharp 4 colours CMYK offset printing on the Kraft paper bag. It look as luxury as the normal laminated paper bag. We strongly encourge whether our new or old customer to consider to use Kraft paper bag as priority for the packaging. It is more cost saving and also environmental friendly

As we go through the paper bag as an advertisement tools to promote a company or brand in our previous session, today we will discuss how many type of paper bag are actual there in the market. Perhaps I may need to write a few articles on this issue as there are now many type of paper bag available. Some people also called paper bag as gift bag, paper carrier bag, shopping bag, green bag, eco bag and many others. But they are all looking for the same thing. A stylish design gift bag with nice combination of colour will attract especially young girls or women to carry it out again for their personal function or event. But the question now is how to decide what kind or gift bag is a correct for a particular business? This is not an easy question to answer.

Basically, paper bag can divided into paper bag with lamination and without lamination. People now are more concern over environmental issue and therefore some business owner are started using paper bag without lamination. The reason behind is laminated paper bag has a thin layer of pp lamination which cannot be biodegradable. It can only be recycled. Thus it cause harm to our mother earth.  It is actually good to use paper bag without lamination so that we can protect our environment together.

Lamination can be divided into 2 types, gloss or matt lamination. Matt lamination paper bag are normally more expensive as compare to gloss lamination paper bag. This is mainly due to the fact that the matt lamination material cost is higher. However both gloss lamination and matt lamination paper bag are equally look nice. Gloss lamination paper bag generally look a bit younger in appearance and matt lamination paper bag look more mature in appearance. Both have the equal luxury feeling. Which type of lamination to be use for the paper bag packaging really depends on what are the products are you selling.

The advantage of laminated paper bag is there are quite durable as the lamination will act as a protection layer to prevent rain or water from being get in touch with the paper or printing directly and thus cause the printing come out. When there are some dirt stick on them , you can also use a wet cloth to wipe it.

Both matt lamination and gloss lamination paper bag look beautiful. We fully understand that it is sometime difficult for the business owner or the exhibitor to decide which type of paper bag to use. But our suggestion is if they are concern about money, then we recommend to use gloss lamination paper bag as it is slightly cheaper if compare to matt lamination paper bag.

Generally it is quite common that when you ask any paper bag supplier or paper bag manufacturer to suggest the paper material that will be used to product the paper bag you want, in Malaysia or Singapore they will normally tell you using 190g or 210g paper to do. These 2 types of paper is the most generally used in the market. It is now seems that 210g become more popular after the set in of China competitor. This is because in China, you can purchase 190g and 210g raw paper at very competitive price. Virtually we can say they are about the same pricing. That is why more and more retail shops are using 210g paper for their paper bag.

Why paper bag supplier or paper bag manufacturer will tell you to use either 190g paper or 210g paper is that these 2 types of paper are more generally accepted by common retailer shops. Therefore, they will order these 2 types of raw paper material in bulk in order to be competitive in pricing.

However, there are also individual customers who insist to use 157g, 170g, 230g or 250g paper. Very few customers go until 300g as it is too thick and costly as well.

Normally the above mentioned 190g, 210g, 230g, 250g and 300g paper used are single coated paper. Meaning another side will be uncoated. The paper bag manufacturer will do the 4 colours offset printing on the coated side which is more smooth in surface and then do a pp lamination on it. We cannot do the pp lamination on uncoated surface as it is a bit rough on the surface and thus will cause the bubble to appear on the laminated area.
As for 157g and 170g paper, very few retail shops are using it as it normally can only used to produce small size paper bag. Paper bag manufacturer will normally use 2 side coated paper for these 157g and 170g paper as it is generally more commonly used.

As such business owner or their marketing department are strongly encourage to allocate some budget for  their paper bag production in future as it only cost a very  small fraction of their profit margin.
